FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has for weeks now been on the hot seat, recently expressed his commitment to assist the growth of football in Africa’s most devout football nation, Nigeria, as the country undergoes a significant restructure of its football administration.
Infantino met with a Nigerian delegation led by National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko at FIFA's headquarters in Zurich on Tuesday, just days after the resignation of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and members of the federation's executive committee.
The meeting focused on the institutional, governance and developmental challenges facing Nigerian football, as well as areas where FIFA could provide additional support.
In a post on Instagram, Infantino said the discussions were aimed at aligning FIFA and Nigeria on a shared vision for the future of football in the country.
