Asencio admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol Fran Santiago/Getty ImagesSept. 2, 2026 Updated Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been convicted of driving while nearly four times over the legal alcohol limit.Asencio, 23, admitted to driving while under the influence of alcohol during a trial at the High Court of Justice of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on August 19. He has been banned from driving and fined €14,400 (£12,349; $16,668).The court heard that Asencio recorded an alcohol level of 0.90 mg/l of breath — almost four times the legal limit of 0.25 mg/l — during a breathalyser test in the south of Gran Canaria on August 16.
The Spanish club have since confirmed that they have opened disciplinary proceedings against the defender and will investigate the matter.In a separate case, Asencio is due to stand trial in September in Gran Canaria over the alleged sharing of intimate footage involving a minor.Asencio is facing two charges — allegedly distributing the video without consent, and allegedly sharing a sex tape involving a minor. He will stand trial alongside three of his former Madrid youth-team team-mates. Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez and Andres Garcia are facing charges over allegedly recording and distributing videos of sexual content of a minor and one other woman.The two alleged victims have withdrawn their allegations against Asencio but it was determined at a preliminary hearing in July that he would stand trial. He has always maintained his innocence.Asencio joined Madrid’s academy from Las Palmas in 2017 and made his first-team debut in 2024. He has made 80 senior appearances for the club but has missed the beginning of the 2026-27 season through injury.
