Scott Taetsch / Getty ImagesSept. 1, 2026 Updated Sept. 2, 2026MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings signed free-agent edge rusher Kyle Van Noy to their practice squad, along with quarterback Max Brosmer, running back DeeJay Dallas and undrafted rookie receiver Dillon Bell.Van Noy, 35, will fill a major void for the Vikings as depth behind starting edge rushers Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner. The only other healthy edge rushers on the roster were former undrafted signings, Chaz Chambliss and Bo Richter.Van Noy’s familiarity with defensive coordinator Brian Flores helped Minnesota’s pursuit. Van Noy played for Flores with the New England Patriots from 2016 to 2018, winning two Super Bowls together. Miami signed Van Noy in 2020 after Flores became the Dolphins’ head coach.What did we learn at the NFL special league meetings?Jonathan Jones and Johnny SweetMinnesota needed edge-rusher depth in the aftermath of the Jonathan Greenard trade to the Philadelphia Eagles this spring. The team hoped undrafted second-year player Tyler Batty could contribute, too, but Batty tore his ACL last Friday in the team’s final preseason game against the Denver Broncos. That injury added further urgency to the team’s interest in Van Noy, who recorded 20 tackles, four tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and one interception in 15 games for the Baltimore Ravens last season.Van Noy visited the team’s TCO Performance Center on Tuesday, and the in-person meeting solidified the Vikings’ interest. Van Noy is two years removed from a 12.5-sack season with the Ravens, but the Vikings aren’t likely to ask him to play 631 snaps, as he did in 2024.Now, Minnesota’s most significant roster question is at safety. Veteran Jamal Adams tore his quad in the team’s first preseason game, and undrafted rookie Jacob Thomas sprained his ankle in the final preseason game. Future Vikings Ring of Honor member Harrison Smith’s status remains up in the air, but the team’s uncertainty at the position suggests his return would be welcome.
