Welcome back to a new school term at the National Theatre and some very hard work keeping up with Cate Blanchett.
An occasional crowd pleaser in films like Lord of the Rings and an Indiana Jones romp, on stage she is a lofty exponent of the Avant Garde – and here she goes again opposite her buddy and fellow actor from the 2022 film Tar, about a megalomaniac conductor, Nina Hoss.
This two-hour show directed by earnest Aussie Benedict Andrews, is in two halves (without the mercy of an interval).
