Information is power, which is why our legislature passed Republic Act No. 10173, — which is, also known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA). This law seeks to regulate the collection, processing, use, and disposition of data and information collected by persons and entities to protect the individual whose information is processed, otherwise known as the Data Subject.
The law deals with personal information, which are information by which the identity of an individual can be reasonably and directly ascertained. Moreover, certain personal information are considered sensitive personal information, or that which:
(a) Involve an individual’s race, ethnic origin, marital status, age, color, and religious, philosophical, or political affiliations;

(b) Include an individual’s health, education, genetic or sexual life, or any proceeding for any offense committed or alleged to have been committed by such person;FEATURED STORIES
