Everton have seen an offer rejected by Manchester United for striker Joshua Zirkzee.The Athletic reported earlier on Tuesday that Everton had made a late bid, with Zirkzee keen on a move to Merseyside.But United did not allow the Dutchman to leave the club, believing there to be insufficient time to secure a replacement ahead of the 11pm BST (6pm ET) deadline.Everton had also agreed a deal to sign United States forward Folarin Balogun from Monaco but that move then appeared to be in doubt, leading to their interest in Zirkzee.However, The Athletic then reported that Everton remained hopeful of concluding a deal for Balogun, seeking to renegotiate a lower fixed fee with higher bonuses for the 25-year-old.Previously, Monaco sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, stated a deal for Balogun would consist of an initial €45million (£38.58m; $52.3m) plus €5million (£4.3m; $5.8m) in potential add-ons had been agreed between the two clubs, while Everton sources had said the deal was worth in the region of £40million ($54m; €46.7m).Everton had agreed to sign Folarin Balogun from Monaco and their interest in Zirkzee came with that deal in doubt (Jamie Squire/Getty Images)Zirkzee, meanwhile, has previously attracted loan interest from Serie A, including from Fiorentina — who have instead signed Beto from Everton, leaving David Moyes’ side with only Thierno Barry as a recognised No 9 in their squad.
