A day after the draft electoral rolls for Delhi were published following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday attacked the Election Commission of India (ECI) for deleting around 1.67 lakh names from the Burari assembly constituency – highest in terms of absolute number of deletions among Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies.The Opposition party alleged that despite repeated requests, the EC has refused to share the details of the removed names.According to the official data, Burari has highest number of names deleted in absolute numbers (1,67,885), followed by Okhla (1,63,829), Badarpur (1,46,673) and Vikaspuri (1,46,225). However, Tughlaqabad has the highest percentage of deletions at 47.8.AAP’s Burari MLA, Sanjeev Jha, said 39.4% of votes in the constituency have been deleted after being marked as “shifted”. “Previously, there were 4,26,451 voters; now, only 2,52,189 remain. That means the names of approximately 1,67,885 people have been removed. He said that the votes of a large number of migrant people — tenants and those who frequently change residences — have been removed and demanded that the poll body inform those affected about “how they can re-register their vote”.He claimed that the party had suggested that the commission share the data of people marked as ‘shifted’, so that the party could verify its authenticity. “AAP had also pointed out that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) had not reached several areas properly and suggested that meetings be held in areas where less than 50% of the work had been completed to determine the reasons. But the Election Commission betrayed us because its intentions were different,” he said.Meanwhile, in a post on X on Tuesday, AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “We have repeatedly told the Election Commission in writing and during meetings that the names, phone numbers, and addresses of those whose names have been deleted should be shared with political parties.
