ALBAWABA- The U.S. Department of State has warned Americans in the Middle East and elsewhere to exercise heightened vigilance as the renewed U.S.-Iran confrontation raises the risk of further escalation, travel disruptions, and potential attacks on U.S. interests.In a security alert, the State Department said the situation in the Middle East remains “complex” and carries the potential for unforeseen escalation. Americans in the region were urged to remain alert and prepare for possible flight cancelations, airspace closures and other disruptions. Those traveling to or from the region were advised to closely monitor airport and airline operations. The United States has launched fresh strikes against Iranian targets following Iranian attacks and attempted attacks involving U.S. forces and commercial shipping around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the U.S. strikes were justified and warned that Iran would face “much bigger” strikes if it retaliated. Iran has threatened retaliation, while the confrontation has already affected regional security and commercial navigation. Two tankers carrying Saudi crude were struck by unidentified projectiles near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, although responsibility for those attacks has not been established.
