With nine weeks before Election Day, a federal whistleblower is raising alarm that the U.S. Postal Service’s rushed implementation of a new and untested system to screen mail ballots, which has been blocked by a federal court, has the potential to upend the upcoming midterm elections.
In a new disclosure made public by Connecticut senator Richard Blumenthal, the unnamed federal official claims that the USPS began work on a new online portal in June with the goal of being operational for a planned September 1 launch date in order to comply with President Donald Trump’s March executive order that introduced new restrictions on mail ballots.
