House surgeons at Government Medical College Hospital here have launched a strike over the lack of basic facilities at the hospital.The doctors said the hospital does not have facilities needed for emergency treatment, including X-ray and CT scan services.The protest was triggered after two doctors injured in an accident on the Medical College campus were referred to the Government District Hospital for treatment.Doctors said patients who need an X-ray or CT scan also have to be taken to the District Hospital. It can take three to four hours to complete the tests and get the reports, they said.The delay could put patients at risk, especially in emergency cases, the doctors said.Duty doctors also alleged that the hospital lacks basic facilities needed to treat patients who arrive at the emergency department.They said such a lack of facilities should not exist in a medical college hospital.
