With an aim to prevent environmental pollution, the Mysuru district administration has banned Ganesha idols made out of Plaster of Paris (POP) or painted with chemical colours.Additional Commissioner of Mysuru R. Aishwarya, who chaired a meeting on Tuesday (September 1) to discuss the arrangements for the coming Gowri-Ganesha festival, said the manufacture, sale, transportation and immersion of idols made out of PoP or painted with chemical colours containing heavy metals have been completely banned.Appealing to the public against installing such idols, Ms. Aishwarya said people should instead opt for clay idols made using natural colours and cooperate with the district administration.
