Kenyan aviation workers have ended a two-day strike that cancelled flights, created delays exceeding 12 hours and stranded thousands of travellers at one of East Africa’s most important aviation hubs.
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union on Tuesday reached a return-to-work agreement with the government, according to Transport Minister Davis Chirchir and union secretary-general Moss Ndiema.
According to Reuters, air traffic controllers and other aviation employees participated in the industrial action, which disrupted services at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and other airports.
The strike affected domestic, regional and international operations. Kenya Airways and Jambojet experienced extended delays, while RwandAir cancelled at least two Nairobi services.
Some passengers said they waited for more than 12 hours as airlines attempted to manage aircraft, crews and travellers displaced by the stoppage.
