Billionaire investor Joshua Kushner has expressed regret over his involvement in FIFA’s abandoned $20 billion commercial-rights proposal, which offered potentially billions of dollars to African football associations.
Kushner, the founder of Thrive Capital and younger brother of Jared Kushner, said his firm would have avoided the project had it understood the political controversy it would generate, Reuters reported.
Jared Kushner is US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
Thrive was expected to become an anchor investor in FIFA Forward Enterprise, a proposed company that would have controlled commercial rights linked to the World Cup and other FIFA competitions.
The plan valued the operation at approximately $20 billion and would have offered private investors a 20% interest in exchange for roughly $4.2 billion.
