Tupac Amaru Shakur, the late American rapper who was one of the most influential artists of the 90s have finally found justice for his murder as Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis, the former gang leader accused of orchestrating the killing of the rapper has been found guilty of first degree murder, nearly three decades after the rapper’s death.
A Las Vegas jury convicted the 63 years old Davis on Monday after deliberating for about three hours, making him the only person ever charged in connection with Shakur’s 1996 murder.
Prosecutors argued during closing statements that Davis played a leading role in the killing, describing him as a shot caller for the South Side Compton Crips and alleging that he and his nephew, Orlando Baby Lane Anderson, went looking for Shakur after a fight at the MGM Grand following a Mike Tyson boxing match.
The prosecution also relied on Davis’ own accounts of the shooting over the years, including statements in his 2019 memoir and recorded conversations. Prosecutors argued that his repeated descriptions of the events amounted to admissions of his involvement.
Davis was not accused of firing the shots that killed Shakur. Instead, prosecutors alleged that he helped organise the attack after the confrontation involving Anderson.
