Sunderland will pay a €30million upfront fee for Fofana plus €6m in potential add-ons.DONE DEAL: Brighton announce Andres arrival, Azeez to follow Getty ImagesBrighton have confirmed the signing of defensive midfielder Chema Andres from Stuttgart and are expected to announce the signing of winger Femi Azeez from Millwall tomorrow morning.Capturing Nigeria international Azeez as well as Spaniard Andres (£15.5m) would increase their number of summer signings to 11, for a total spend of around £170million.This is not unprecedented territory. They splashed out nearly £200m on nine players in the 2024 summer window.The difference this time is approximately £195m raised from 20 permanent and loan departures, so they have still made a profit.Nice work, if it all works out and they kick on in the Premier League after five finishes in succession in the top 11 and in their pursuit of a first major trophy in the Conference League.Balogun back where he started the summer Getty ImagesWhat a strange few months for Folarin Balogun. From a star turn at the World Cup, to being embroiled in a red card controversy, to linked with a move to a number of big clubs in Europe, to a deal to Everton falling apart after the passing of the transfer deadline in England.Balogun’s head must be spinning, but he’s currently left in the same place as he was at the end of the last European season: Monaco.That doesn’t mean it will be that way. The Turkish window remains open and Galatasaray previously held interest this summer. They had already sanctioned the sale of Beto to Fiorentina early today and now have just one senior striker, Thierno Barry, on the books. While others, like young winger Tyrique George, have had spells playing in a central role, there will be huge pressure on Barry, 23, after a hit-and-miss first season on Merseyside.Everton end the window short there and at full-back, where the departures of Nathan Patterson (permanent to Torino) and Adam Aznou (loan to Malaga) also leave them short on both sides of defence. The 21-year-old has been on loan to Exeter City, Crawley Town and Reading in the lower divisions since switching to Brighton from Southampton in January 2024.DONE DEAL: Ipswich announce Flemming signing Getty ImagesA final transfer of the summer for promoted Ipswich Town who have spent a lot of money in their bid to stay in the Premier League this season.They have announced the signing of Zian Flemming from Burnley.The 28-year-old Dutchman scored 11 Premier League goals last season in a team that was relegated without much a fight.Flemming joins Emersonn and Daizen Maeda in the Ipswich striker department.DONE DEAL: Ben Chilwell rejoins Crystal Palace Getty ImagesCrystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Ben Chilwell from Strasbourg.The left-back spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Palace from Chelsea, helping the south London side to win the FA Cup.Chilwell, 29, began his career with Leicester before joining Chelsea, where he won the Champions League.He becomes Palace's ninth signing of the summer.Chilwell told the Crystal Palace website: “It's amazing to be back. It's nice to see some familiar faces, and I'm just really excited to get back in, see the boys and the fans – and get going again.”A new joint-British transfer record The AthleticSix of the 15 most-expensive British transfers in history happened this summer.Enzo Fernandez has taken his place at the top, alongside Alexander Isak.SKIP ADVERTISEMENTAdvertisementDONE DEAL: Manchester City announce £125m Fernandez signing Manchester CityManchester City have confirmed the £125million ($169m) signing of midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea.The Athletic reported earlier on Tuesday that City had finally reached an agreement to sign Fernandez, with the package equalling the existing British transfer record set by Liverpool’s purchase of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United last summer, a move also completed late in the transfer window.City had offered £104m plus add-ons but Chelsea asked any fee be fixed and then specified on Monday a price of £135m, at which point City indicated they were walking away, before a compromise was found at £125m.Fernandez’s exit brings to an end what has been a drawn-out saga surrounding the 25-year-old and his future.Now, the biggest move of deadline day and arguably the biggest move of the summer transfer window has been rubber-stamped.Here's David Ornstein with more...Two summers which promise much but could deliver little Getty ImagesI remain unconvinced by the summer business of Tottenham and Brighton.Tottenham have spent hundreds of millions but lost promising centre-half Luka Vuskovic and their inconsistent but talented captain Cristian Romero and bought Jan Paul van Hecke, who is a good passer but not so good at the nuts and bolts of defending.Marcos Senesi is a good player on a free but may not play much ahead of new skipper Micky van de Ven and left-back Andy Robertson's best days are behind him. Spurs have surely overpaid for winger Savio, whose goal involvements for Manchester City were minimal, while midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are not complete midfielders and could hamper the progress of talents like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.They have recouped a good amount from the sales of squad players like Will Lankshear, Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz, Manor Solomon, Alfie Devine and youngster Tynan Thompson (for around £56m collectively).Brighton have added a backline's worth of defenders in Costinha, Michael Svoboda, Pascal Struijk and Jaouen Hadjam — only one of whom has Premier League experience.Meanwhile, winger Zadok Yohanna is unproven and striker Promise David will surely be unable to reproduce the goals of veteran Danny Welbeck, who left cheaply to Chelsea.They did recoup sizeable fees for Carlos Baleba and Carl Rushworth, though, after their moves to Manchester United and Coventry City respectively.ICYMI: Where else can players move after September 1?As a reminder, while the chance to join a club in one of Europe’s big-five leagues ended today, there are still options available for players and selling clubs after that date.For example, the deadline in Scotland is not until 5pm BST (midday ET, 9am PT) on September 3.There are various later deadlines in other parts of Europe including a September 4 closing date for clubs in Turkey.And then there is MLS in the United States, where the ‘secondary window’ remains open until September 2, and the Saudi Pro League, where clubs have until October 12 to sign players.DONE DEAL: Tottenham complete Tosin signing Getty ImagesThe first Premier League transfer to be completed after the transfer window closed was another between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.Spurs have announced the permanent signing of Tosin Adarabioyo.Tottenham’s move for the 28-year-old comes after centre-back Kevin Danso left the club earlier today to join Sunderland. Here is what Tosin had to say after making the move.💬 “I'm in an important part of my career and speaking to the head coach and knowing the type of football he wants to play, I think it's a very good fit. “He wants the team to play with courage and that's something that I always look to do.
