Fintech company OPay Digital Services Limited has threatened legal action against an X user over a publication claiming that the company would shut down its operations indefinitely from September 1, 2026.
The company described the claim as false and misleading, demanding that the user, Cute Hafserh (#haifah_er_abba), delete the post, issue a retraction and tender an unreserved apology.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Chief Legal Counsel, Akinfolabi Rokosu, OPay said it was notified of the publication made on August 30, in which the user allegedly informed customers that the company would be going on an indefinite break and advised them to withdraw their funds.
OPay described the publication as “false, malicious, unlawful, libellous and defamatory,” alleging that it had caused reputational and commercial damage to the company.
The company gave the user until 11:59 pm on Monday to delete the publication and desist from further circulating the claim.
