Northwest Naturals is voluntarily recalling nearly 2,000 pounds of raw frozen pet food after FDA testing found salmonella and listeria monocytogenes contamination in two chicken-based products distributed to retail stores nationwide.
The Portland, Oregon-based company is pulling two products: 53 cases of the Frozen Chicken Recipe — a cat food and protein topper for dogs sold in 2-pound bags, totaling 1,272 pounds — and 19 cases of the Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe, sold in 6-pound bags and amounting to 684 pounds, the company said. The two lots together total 1,956 pounds of product.
The 2-pound Frozen Chicken Recipe tested positive for salmonella. The 6-pound Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe tested positive for both salmonella and listeria monocytogenes, the company said. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.
