Everton have reached an agreement with Monaco for the signing of U.S. men’s national team striker Folarin Balogun.Monaco sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, stated a deal consisting of an initial €45million (£38.58m; $52.3m) plus €5million (£4.3m; $5.8m) in potential add-ons had been agreed between the two clubs, while Everton sources said the deal was worth in the region of £40million ($54m; €46.7m).Personal terms for the 25-year-old are still in the process of being finalised.The Athletic reported on Monday that Everton were in preliminary talks with Monaco over a move for Balogun, who has two years remaining on his existing contract with the Ligue 1 club.Balogun was expected to leave Monaco this summer, with talks having not taken place over an extension of his terms.Everton have been in the market for a striker ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, with Beto nearing a move to Fiorentina, having undergone a medical on Monday. Beto’s departure would leave Everton with one recognised striker in Thierno Barry.After an injury-disrupted 2024-25 campaign, Balogun returned 19 goals and five assists in 43 appearances for Monaco last season, his best return since joining the club from Arsenal in 2023, in a deal worth an initial €30million, with a further €10m in add-ons (£34.5m; $45.6m at current exchange rates).Balogun had an impressive World Cup on home soil this summer, scoring three times in four appearances, finishing at the USMNT’s top scorer in their run to the round of 16.After being sent off in his side’s round of 32 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina, Balogun’s standard one-game ban was suspended by FIFA, which followed a call from President Donald Trump to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, with the decision drawing widespread criticism. He subsequently featured in the round of 16 match against Belgium, which the U.S. lost 4-1.
