Two alleged sharpshooters involved in the murder of Haryanvi singer Ankit Balyan were killed in an encounter with a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and police personnel from Shamli district, the Uttar Pradesh police said on Monday. The two men, identified as 24-year-old Sumit and 22-year-old Mohit, carried a reward of ₹50,000 each. A search for the other two accused is under way, said the police.The singer’s father welcomed the development and said the killing of the other two accused would bring the family “complete justice”.Balyan was shot dead outside his gym in Shamli by four motorcycle-borne assailants on August 26. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav had hit out at the State government over the incident, calling it an attack on the Jat community.Jayant meets familyOn Monday, Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary, who hails from the community, met the family in Banti Kheda village and said there should be faith in the police.“Mohit and Sumit were injured by gunfire during retaliatory firing by the police in self-defence in a joint operation by Kotwali Shamli police station, Jhinjhana police station and SWAT team,” read a statement issued by the police. It added that they were taken to Shamili Joint Hospital, where the two died during treatment.Two head constables were injured in the gunfire, the police said, adding that three pistols, 26 live cartridges and a motorcycle, among other items, were recovered from the crime scene.“It has been learnt that 14 cases were registered against Mohit and one against Sumit.
