Aug. 31 (UPI) -- A pair of metal detecting hobbyists found a class ring at a New York lake that turned out to have been lost during a day on the water 28 years earlier.
Michael Siegle and Dylan LaPort said they were treasure hunting at the Great Sacandaga Lake when they found the Red Creek High School ring from the Class of 1988.
"We heard the tone on the metal detector and then just flipped over a rock, and it was just sitting there," LaPort told WRGB-TV.
LaPort posted photos of the ring on Facebook in the hopes of finding its owner.
After some time went by without any leads, the men contacted Red Creek High School and spoke with a secretary, who quickly identified the ring's owner as a former classmate, Kim Rasbeck.
