Below is my list of potential fast starters in fantasy this season.QB: Jaxson Dart, NYG (ADP: QB11, 105.0)First 5 weeks: DAL, at LAR, TEN, ARI, at WASSophomore slumps be damned. Toss a pointy object at the board and hit a bull’s eye.Similar to his teammate RB Cam Skattebo, Dart is learning — hopefully — to keep his invaluable franchise frame intact. John Harbaugh and the Giants coaching staff have relentlessly coached Dart throughout the summer to slide in order to avoid hard contact. Assuming in-game adrenaline doesn’t falsely give him a Superman complex, he should do a better job of evading violence. That doesn’t mean he’ll suddenly abandon running the rock. Like Buffalo’s Josh Allen, Dart is one of the most effective red-zone plows in the game.Couple Dart’s still promising rushing-touchdown upside with the return of WR Malik Nabers and the additions of TE Isaiah Likely and WR Malachi Fields and his hot-start potential is realized. Outside the top 20 in deep-ball completion percentage and the top 35 in red-zone completion rate a season ago, Dart should improve in myriad areas.Blessed with four early season matchups against secondaries ranked No. 20 or lower (according to PFF) entering the season, it wouldn’t be surprising if Dart were a top-three QB performer at the end of Week 5. The garbage-time upside possibilities for Week 2 in Los Angeles only increases the likelihood.RB: David Montgomery, HOU (ADP: RB22, 51.2)First 5 weeks: BUF, CIN, at IND, DAL, TENAdmittedly, this scribe’s obsession with #MandatoryMontgomery is well documented. Even horror character legend Nikki Freeman would describe the relationship as “too clingy.” Still, it’s hard to refute Houston’s exploitable opening-season setup.Contradictory news out of Texans camp trickled out throughout August. Some reports suggested Montgomery will see an upswing in touches — particularly in the pass game. Others, meanwhile, indicated a dreaded 50-50 timeshare with Woody Marks is on the immediate horizon. Analyzing the room, getting the right read on his usage may be an exercise in futility. The former Lion, however, easily bested Marks in several key advanced metrics last year, including yards after contact per attempt, total missed tackles and expected points added (EPA) per rush. He’s no doubt the better back.
