Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Prediction market Kalshi permanently banned former Republican congressman George Santos from its platform on Monday over alleged illegal trades.

Kalshi alleges that Santos wagered on his own attendance at February's State of the Union address. It has also fined the former lawmaker $71,356.

Santos had posted on social media that he would be in attendance for President Donald Trump's address in the days leading up to it. On the day of the address, Santos posted that he was watching it from the airport.

Kalshi said Santos made public statements about his attendance "in an attempt to influence the price of Yes and No contracts, respectively." This violates Kalshi's rules which prohibit trading on non-public information.
