HYDERABADA delegation from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, met top executives of the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) and invited the coal mining company to explore opportunities for collaboration in Australia, particularly in the area of unearthing critical mineral resources.Dean (Engineering) of Monash University Prof. Yiannis Ventikos led the MU delegation and they had a meeting with Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL Buddhaprakash Jyothi, Directors Gowtham Potru (Personnel & Finance), L.V. Suryanarayana (Operations), K. Venkateshwarlu (Projects & Planning) and others.The delegation stated that Australia is keen to encourage partnerships with international organisations in the critical minerals sector and invited Singareni having extensive experience in mining to explore a mutually beneficial partnership.They observed that there is a growing global demand for critical minerals and stated that Monash University is prepared to provide technical expertise in advanced technologies, environmentally sustainable mining practices and commercially viable strategic business initiatives in this sector.Further, they highlighted Monash University’s expertise in research, education, industry collaboration and transforming research outcomes into commercially viable technological solutions. It stated that the university has been working with industries and research institutions across the world in various sectors.The meeting primarily focused on the growing global importance of critical minerals and the opportunities available in their exploration, extraction, processing and refining as well as the manufacture of value-added products. The Monash University delegation also explained the potential for creating additional value through downstream processing and refining rather than limiting operations to the extraction of raw minerals.The Singareni officials made a PowerPoint presentation on the company’s activities, including coal mining, thermal and solar power generation and exploration for gold and copper deposits in Karnataka.
