The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a 10-day ‘Ballari Chalo’ padayatra from Raichur to Ballari on Tuesday, highlighting the alleged failures of the Congress government and demanding accountability over the alleged “embezzlement of funds from the State-run Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Limited.”The issue assumes significance as former Minister B. Nagendra resigned from the D.K. Shivakumar Cabinet as the BJP had campaigned for his resignation.Releasing posters of the padayatra at the BJP office here on Monday, Raghu Kautilya, MLC, said BJP leaders and workers from across the State would participate in the march under the leadership of State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka, and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy.He said the padayatra would also highlight the alleged scam in the recruitment of veterinary officers by the Karnataka Public Service Commission and the State government’s reported move to allow portions of park and garden land to be used for purposes other than park maintenance and development.Mr. Kautilya alleged that the government’s proposal to alienate 5% of park land for other purposes (through the amendment to the Karnataka Government Parks (Preservation) (Amendment) Bill) would lead to the encroachment of green spaces. “This should be opposed not just by the BJP but by people across the State,” he said.
