The European Union announced that it will continue working with the United States, fellow G7 members, and international partners to maintain pressure on the Islamic Republic, expressing support for further economic pressure on Iran.
This position was outlined on Monday, August 31, in an EU statement issued alongside the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.
“The EU welcomes efforts to compel Iran to cease its destabilizing activities and engage in good-faith peace negotiations, including through additional economic pressure such as the US-led Operation Economic Exclusion,” the statement read.
The European Union further emphasized that it will “continue to work closely with the United States, other G7 countries, and international partners” to sustain pressure on the Islamic Republic.
The statement noted that the EU has already implemented comprehensive sanctions against the Islamic Republic to restrict Tehran’s ability to leverage the global economy and international financial system for its activities.
