The State government has extended the deadline for door-to-door survey of Gruha Jyothi scheme beneficiaries by a month, giving time till September 30 to complete the verification process. The review survey for the scheme began on July 1, 2026, with the initial deadline set for August 31. Across the eight districts under the jurisdiction of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (BESCOM), there were 68.86 lakh Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries as on May 2026. Of these, 46.7 lakh beneficiaries, or around 70%, had been surveyed as on August 31.BESCOM Managing Director N. Shivashankara urged the remaining beneficiaries to cooperate with meter readers and provide necessary documents when staff visit their houses from September 1. BESCOM officials said some beneficiaries residing in apartments across Bengaluru had not been cooperating with staff during the survey. They have urged apartment residents to facilitate access for visiting staff. For locked houses, meter readers will make up to three visits at different time slots. During each visit, staff will record the latitude and longitude of the premises and mark the property as “DL” (door lock) in the mobile app.Once a house is marked as locked, an SMS containing the meter reader’s name and contact number will be sent to the beneficiary’s registered mobile phone number. This will be done up to three times, allowing beneficiaries to contact the meter reader and complete the registration. In the case of vacant premises, the property can be marked as “VACANT” and registered in the app only after staff physically visit the location and record its latitude and longitude. For queries or assistance related to the survey, beneficiaries can contact the BESCOM helpline numbers 9480816111, 9480816112, 9480816113, and 9480816114.
