The 'Wild EP makes Katseye the fourth all-female group to rule the Billboard 200 this decade, following K-pop acts Blackpink, NewJeans and Twice. The band was formed with the traditional K-pop model commonly used by major players in the space to compile vocal troupes, and many of the most successful figures in the business had a hand in creating the outfit and steering it toward success.Katseye was formed via the reality competition series Dream Academy, a collaboration between American-based Geffen Records and South Korean entertainment giant HYBE. In three consecutive summers, Katseye has released a trio of EPs (a proper full-length has yet to emerge). Its latest set, Wild, becomes the Grammy-nominated act’s most successful project in America yet. The set conquers several Billboard charts as it debuts, and its arrival helps Katseye match some of the biggest names associated with K-pop.Katseye Scores Its First Billboard 200 No. 1Wild debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the most important albums ranking in America, which measures consumption with both sales and streaming activity. The EP becomes Katseye’s first leader on the tally and its second top 10 out of three total appearances on the roster. Wild also starts atop the Top Album Sales chart, bringing the girl group to No. 1 on that purchase-focused roster for the first time as well. All three of Katseye’s projects to reach the sales list have broken into the top 10, as the singers command a fan base that is eager to support the band.Katseye Joins Three K-Pop Girl GroupsBillboard notes that as Wild opens atop the Billboard 200, it becomes only the fourth No. 1 by an all-female group of any kind this decade. The other three acts to accomplish the feat are all K-pop stars. Blackpink became the first to reach the peak spot (since 2020) when Born Pink earned the quartet its initial leader in 2022 after the group had previously come close to the summit. NewJeans followed the next year with its Get Up EP, which blocked the Barbie soundtrack from No. 1 during an especially competitive week. Twice later joined the club when With YOU-th found its way to the penthouse. In addition to leading the Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales ranking, the EP also opens at No. 2 on the Vinyl Albums chart, missing becoming a No. 1 on that tally by just one space.
