Seeking divine blessings for timely and abundant rains, the Kareeristi-Varunajapa-Parjanya Shanti yagam commenced at the Dharmagiri Veda Vignana Peetham in Tirumala on Monday (August 31, 2026).The elaborate Vedic rituals are being conducted by 32 ritwiks in morning, afternoon, and evening sessions, said Peetham principal K.S.S. Avadhani.As part of the rain-invoking rituals, 12 ritwiks performed Varunajapa and chanted Parjanya Shanti mantras while standing in the water of Gogarbham dam. Other ritwiks recited verses from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhaghavatam.Faculty members and students of the Dharmagiri Veda Vignana Peetham participated in the day long religious proceedings.
