The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has tightened its food safety regime, directing all hotels and food outlets to adhere strictly to hygiene and quality standards ahead of the twin Brahmotsavams, which are expected to draw a massive influx of devotees to Tirumala.TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, addressing hoteliers and food outlet managers at a meeting at Asthana Mandapam on Monday (August 31, 2026), called for uncompromising adherence to food-safety norms to ensure that devotees are served safe, hygienic, and quality food during the ensuing Brahmotsavams. The Additional EO said the TTD had conducted multiple training programmes over the past two years for hoteliers and their staff on kitchen hygiene, food handling, and processing practices. He directed all hotels to step up compliance and maintain the prescribed standards at every stage of food preparation and service. As part of the intensified monitoring mechanism, food samples from every hotel will be tested in the laboratory every month for compliance with FSSAI standards. Violations would invite stringent action, including a fine of up to ₹5 lakh and possible seizure of the premises allotted to the hotelier, he warned.Mr. Chowdary also ordered regular audits of hotel kitchens and said they would have to obtain certification for prescribed food-safety standards. Hoteliers were further instructed to sell food items strictly at the maximum retail price (MRP) and desist from overcharging devotees. In another measure aimed at safeguarding public health, health-screening camps will be organised for hotel staff to ensure that those handling food meet the requisite health and hygiene standards.
