Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Members of the U.S. House are expected to make passing a stopgap funding bill a priority this week after they returned Monday to Washington, D.C., after their annual August break.
Two unnamed Republican aides in the House told The Washington Post that the majority party seeks to hold a vote Tuesday using a fast-track process called a "suspension of the rules." It requires two-thirds of the chamber to agree to the rules.
The short-term funding bill would avert a government shutdown, the deadline for which is Sept. 30. The measure, if passed, would fund the government through Dec. 4.
The House is expected to take another break -- this time for a week -- to mark Labor Day on Sept. 7, CBS News reported.
