The Northeastern University, Boston, and the University of London will establish their first offshore campuses in India in Hyderabad.The developments follow the Telangana Rising delegation’s visit to the UK and the US from August 19 to 29, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu.The University of London, a federation of 17 independent institutions in England, and Northeastern University have agreed to set up offshore campuses in Hyderabad, according to an official release.Discussions with leading global institutionsThe delegation also held discussions with the London School of Economics (LSE) and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) on setting up offshore schools, strengthening industry-academic interaction, improving teaching and classroom models and bringing faculty to Hyderabad.Harvard University has expressed an intent to offer short-term executive education programmes for senior government and corporate officials at the Dr MCR HRD Institute in Hyderabad.The Telangana delegation also held discussions with senior leadership, faculty and administrators of Oxford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), London Business School, Cambridge University and Imperial College London.Telangana plans global knowledge hubReviewing the outcome of the tour here on Monday, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed officials to pursue the establishment of a global knowledge hub by bringing leading universities, colleges and schools to Hyderabad through offshore campuses and collaborations.“I am happy and proud to share with my four crore people of Telangana that our vision to transform Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047, with an intermediary goal of $1 trillion by 2034, has received a big boost,” Reddy said.The State government would bring world-class educational programmes to youth and children in Telangana and across India, and urged them to leverage the institutions to build globally competitive careers, he added.Published on August 31, 2026
