The United States (US) embassy in Abuja has clarified that it will continue to process diplomatic and official visas even as routine immigrant and non-immigrant visa services have been moved entirely to Lagos.
The embassy said applicants seeking diplomatic or official visas under category A, G and C, should first consult the protocol office that ordinarily handles visa matters before starting the application process.
A visas are issued to foreign diplomats and government officials travelling to the US on official duties, while G visas cover representatives of international organisations and certain members of their staff. C visas are issued to certain foreign nationals travelling through the US in transit to another country.

The clarification follows the US government’s decision to end routine visa processing in Abuja from August 1, 2026, making the US Consulate in Lagos the sole location in Nigeria for routine immigrant and non-immigrant visa applications.
