..Inflation rises for second straight month to 6.6% in August

Kenya’s inflation accelerated to a three-month high in August as higher fuel costs, linked to renewed tensions in the Middle East, pushed up transport expenses and added pressure on prices across the economy.

Consumer prices rose 6.6 percent in August from a year earlier, up from 6.5 percent in July, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. The increase marked the second consecutive monthly rise in inflation and came above the 6.4 percent median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4 percent, twice the 0.2 percent recorded in July.
