Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The Pokémon Company is developing a new film inspired by Pokémon TCG, the trading card game set in the Pokémon universe.
Pokémon: Wild Card is an animated movie following a TCG player protagonist and his partner Pokémon, Mimikyu, as they take on battles and strive to become a champion.
The Pokémon Company President and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara announced the project Sunday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, an annual tournament for real-life Pokémon TCG players.
A teaser trailer says the film is "coming 2027 and beyond."
Katsuhiko Kitada will direct the movie, which features animation by CloverWorks (Persona 5: The Animation, My Dress-Up Darling, Spy x Family).
