Iranian media outlets report that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, accompanied by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has arrived in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State.
According to the state-run IRNA news agency, Pezeshkian and Araghchi arrived in Bishkek on Monday, August 31, where they were received by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.
The Iranian president traveled to Kyrgyzstan to participate in and address the summits of the SCO member states and the expanded “SCO Plus” format.
Leaders from 21 countries are scheduled to travel to Kyrgyzstan for the event. The attendance of leaders from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, India, and Iran at the Bishkek summit has been confirmed.
IRNA reported that Pezeshkian is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit. The state news agency noted that, if realized, this would mark the sixth meeting between Pezeshkian and Putin.
