On Sunday afternoon, the United States launched strikes against Iran on Laruck Island. On Sunday night, President Donald Trump posted a video to his Truth Social account with the caption “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens.” The video is AI-generated. It features the back of the head of a pilot of a United States aircraft of some sort, overlooking the bombing of what is believed to be an industrial compound supposedly on Kharg Island. No explanation was given as to why Trump posted the video. There have not been any comments about it at all from the White House as of early Monday morning.

The strikes on Laruck Island were the first against Iran in over a month. They came after U.S. intelligence witnessed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces preparing to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, in an attempt to deter sea traffic and attack ships from passing through the critical nautical passage. The U.S. military claimed it cleared the Strait of mines last week. U.S. Central Command explained the military action in a statement on Sunday. “U.S. forces took limited, precise action against the IRGC minelaying forces posing an imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in a statement. “In essence, Iran created the threat, and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global commerce.”During an interview on “Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy,” which aired on Fox News on Sunday night, the president spoke about the war in Iran with the former congressman.
