Both projects were built as solar-plus-storage hybrids, with BESS Libelula co-located with a solar farm in the Santiago Metropolitan region and BESS Los Loros set at a solar site in the Atacama region. Together, the batteries represent an investment of USD 283 million (EUR 243.9m), the company said on Friday.BESS Libelula, located in the municipalities of Colina and Tiltil about 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of Santiago, has 203 MW of maximum gross power and 1,034 MWh of storage capacity. The system consists of 208 lithium-ion battery containers and can discharge for five hours.The site also includes a 140-MW solar photovoltaic plant with 245,560 panels mounted on Nexpower’s NX Horizon low-carbon trackers. Browse and subscribe for free.The overall hybrid project represents an investment of USD 320 million, including USD 219 million for the BESS, Engie Chile said.BESS Los Loros, located at the utility's Los Loros solar farm in the Atacama region, has 48 MW of maximum gross power and 275.23 MWh of storage capacity.
