The Danube River continues to decline along Bulgaria's section, with the sharpest drop recorded near Ruse, according to data from the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River as of August 31, 2026.
The water level at Ruse has fallen to -127 centimeters, while Silistra is at -116 centimeters and Oryahovo at -98 centimeters. The level stands at -67 centimeters in Svishtov, -57 centimeters in Novo Selo and -24 centimeters in Vidin. Lom and Nikopol both recorded a level of -14 centimeters.
Significant declines have also been registered at automatic hydrometric stations over the previous six hours. The drop reached 115 centimeters at Ruse and 112 centimeters at Silistra, while Oryahovo recorded a decrease of 93 centimeters and Svishtov 55 centimeters. The largest fall was measured at Ryahovo, where the level dropped by 323 centimeters.
The continuing low water levels are creating difficulties for shipping along the Danube. The River Supervision Directorate is maintaining restrictions in critical sections where the available dimensions of the navigation channel have been reduced.
The latest measurements indicate that the low-water situation remains a serious challenge for navigation along Bulgaria's stretch of the river, with water levels continuing to fluctuate sharply at several monitoring points.
