Seventeen farmers have been killed and more than 70 injured in the Kherson region since the start of the war. Russian forces are destroying agricultural machinery, crops and businesses.
This was reported by the Rivne Regional Military Administration, citing information presented during a meeting with farmers from the Kherson region, according to Ukrinform.
“A meeting with farmers from the Kherson region was held in the Rivne region. We discussed the challenges currently facing farmers working near the front line, relocation opportunities and further cooperation between the regions,” the statement said.
Farmers from the Kherson region spoke about working under constant Russian attacks. Many farms are located 20–30 kilometers from the front line. Before heading into the fields, farmers coordinate their routes with the military, while some operations are carried out wearing body armor and helmets.
“Due to the hostilities, only about one-third of the agricultural land in our region can currently be used. Russian forces are destroying machinery, crops and businesses. In addition, farmers face demining and logistics problems – it is difficult to transport harvested produce out of dangerous areas,” said Dmytro Yunusov, head of the Department for Agricultural Development and Irrigation of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.
