New Delhi, August 30: The Chinese Ambassador-designate, Mr. Chen Chao Yusu, is expected to arrive in Delhi in the next two weeks and present his credentials well before October 1 to make his first public appearance at the Embassy’s national day reception.As a happy augury to the restoration of Ambassador-level representation, China has fallen in line with the rest of the Asian Group in the United Nations in supporting India’s candidature for one of the two Asian seats on the Security Council to be vacated by Japan on completion of its two-year term.At the Asian Group meeting in New York on August 16, which incidentally was presided over by the Bangladesh representative, China went along with the other members in supporting Japan’s suggestion that India should be nominated for this seat. The other two countries in the field, the Philippines and Mongolia, withdrew in India’s favour after several countries spoke in support of its candidature.In accordance with the normal practice, the Bangladesh Chairman of the 34-member Asian Group has formally notified the other regional groups of its decision to nominate India.
