Jonathan Bachman / Getty ImagesBy Hugh KellenbergerAug. 30, 2026 5:48 pm EDT Updated A season that began with a win has ended with another for Scottie Scheffler.The No. 1 player in the world shot a 66 on Sunday to win the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, coming from three shots back of third-round leader Viktor Hovland. Scheffler finished at 16-under-par.Scheffler won The American Express in January in his first tournament of 2026, then did not win again until the FedEx St. Jude Championship two weeks ago, the longest winless drought for the 30-year-old since 2023. The Tour Championship gives him three wins this season, and makes a compelling case for another PGA Tour Player of the Year honor.
With the $10 million prize for winning the Tour Championship, Scheffler has also officially passed Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour’s career money list. Scheffler entered the week just more than $600,000 behind Woods’ $120,199,166. Woods had held the record for 26 years, since February 2000.Scheffler had six birdies and two bogeys on Sunday, standing out on a day when most of the final groups struggled to score.It is Scheffler’s second Tour Championship after winning the 2024 edition by four strokes over Collin Morikawa. That was in the “starking strokes” era, however, when Scheffler walked into East Lake with the lead thanks to his season-long dominance. The rules changed before the 2025 Tour Championship to have all 30 players begin the tournament level and will change again in 2028, when the PGA Tour moves to a match-play tournament.Hovland, who won the Tour Championship in 2023, spent much of Sunday jostling with Scheffler for position, but struggled to find fairways on the back nine. A birdie putt on the par-3 15th rolled just past the left edge of the hole, and another birdie putt on the par-4 16th did the same, keeping him two strokes back of Scheffler.
