1. Bombs on Nato’s doorstep
It’s been a weekend of escalation in Ukraine. Volleys of missiles rained down on a military base used for Nato exercises in the town of Yaroviv yesterday, 15 miles from the border of Poland and the EU. Russia has asked China for military assistance, and this morning civilians have been killed in rocket attacks on Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Sajid Javid, the health secretary, accused Russia of war crimes on Times Radio this morning after it emerged that 2,000 civilians – including pregnant women – have been killed in attacks on hospitals and other civilian targets in Mariupol. “These are war crimes,” he said, “and Russia will be held accountable.”
