American Airlines resumes nonstop Miami–Caracas service on Thursday 3 September with two daily rotations — an Envoy Air Embraer E175 and a mainline Boeing 737-8 — lifting weekly seats to 3,472 in both directions, 63 percent above the pre-suspension schedule, pending final government approval. Round trips were showing from about US$757. The US advisory sits at Level 3, Reconsider Travel, with Level 4 zones along the Colombian border and in several rural states.
Guatemala abolishes its property tax on homes. Decreto 18-2026, signed by President Arévalo and published in the official gazette on Friday, sets the IUSI rate at zero for residential and mixed-use property. Commercial buildings keep paying, at three, six and nine per thousand. The zero rate takes effect on 8 January 2027 — 2026 bills still stand — and municipalities lose about Q1.2 billion a year, roughly US$157.4 million.
