Aggrieved parties took the matter to the High Court of Anambra State, Awka Judicial Division, in Suit No. OT/237/2026, and on August 5, 2026, Justice Jude Obiora ruled on a motion for interlocutory injunction (Motion No. OT/1192M/2026).
A group calling itself the Concerned Indigenes and Stakeholders of Nsugbe has petitioned President Bola Tinubu, accusing Anambra State's Commissioner for Local Government and Community Matters, Vincent Ezeaka, and the state's Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke SAN, of flagrantly disregarding a subsisting High Court order in a bid to force through a disputed election for the next Igwe of Nsugbe in Anambra East Local Government Area.
In a letter dated August 29, 2026 and titled "Protest and Complaint Against the Flagrant Violation of a Subsisting Court Order," the group told the President it was writing "as concerned indigenes, sons, daughters and well-meaning residents of Nsugbe community" to lodge "a formal protest and complaint against the unlawful and contemptuous actions" of the two officials, which it said "now threaten to plunge our hitherto peaceful community into avoidable chaos and disorder."
