Amnesty International Kenya has accused President William Ruto’s government of failing to adequately address enforced disappearances and police killings, demanding investigations, justice and reparations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The organisation, in a statement signed by its Kenyan Executive Director, George Morara, on Sunday to mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, said 19 cases of enforced disappearance and 69 police killings had been documented in Kenya in 2026.
Amnesty said the figures, compiled by the Missing Voices Coalition, represented real victims and families affected by alleged human rights violations.
“These are not merely statistics. Behind every number is a person whose liberty was taken away, a family left searching for answers, and a community forced to confront the consequences of impunity,” the organisation said.
