NEW YORK — New York Yankees shortstop George Lombard Jr. seems likely to avoid going on the injured list despite twisting his right knee and leaving before the fourth inning of Saturday night’s 9-2 win over the Boston Red Sox.Lombard said an MRI showed there was no structural damage to his knee, though he felt some soreness on Sunday morning.“It’s good that it’s nothing too serious,” Lombard said.The Yankees consider Lombard’s availability to be day-to-day, though he seemed unlikely to play in Sunday’s series finale, manager Aaron Boone said. José Caballero was in the starting lineup at shortstop.“They don’t seem too concerned about it,” Boone said. “But we’ve got to get the discomfort out of there and the swelling out of there. We’ll see what we have today.”“It was just kind of one of those weird freak things,” Lombard said.
