She praised an Estonian statesman who never claimed a 'monopoly on the truth'
Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, paid tribute to her father Siim Kallas at his state funeral in Tallinn this weekend.
The former Estonian prime minister died on 21 August, aged 77, after a distinguished political career which spanned Estonia’s independence from the Soviet Union and its accession to the EU.
He was finance minister, then PM, before serving as vice president of the European Commission from 2004 to 2014. In the Barroso Commission he handled administrative affairs, and later, transport.
Kaja Kallas, whose words were delivered by Estonian actress Helena Lotman, remembered her father as trusting and a “very good father” who celebrated life, and built a tight-knit family.
