(credit: Courtesy of Debi Shoua Haim)US diplomats urged to ask governments to deploy security forces for High Holy DaysIn an instruction cable sent to US missions, American diplomats were asked to urge governments to deploy, when necessary, police forces, counterterrorism units, or even military personnel at synagogues and locations where prayers and holiday events will be held.The missions were also instructed to work with local authorities to ensure security briefings and coordination with Jewish institutions, security organizations, and businesses ahead of the holidays. In an unusual measure, the cable also calls for establishing a way to deliver immediate threat alerts on Shabbat and Jewish holidays to observant Jews who do not use electronic devices.The official also referenced the executive order signed by US President Donald Trump at the beginning of his term, which states that it is US policy to fight antisemitism “with determination” and through all appropriate legal tools.Follow us on Google
