Two African cities have earned places among the world’s 20 best nightlife destinations in 2026, with Johannesburg and Accra recognised by Time Out for their vibrant after-dark scenes.
Johannesburg ranked No. 7 globally, making it Africa’s highest-ranked city on the list, while Ghana’s capital Accra placed No. 18.
The ranking was compiled from responses from more than 24,000 locals, combined with assessments from Time Out’s city editors, culture experts and nightlife specialists.
Time Out assessed cities based on factors including the quality and affordability of nightlife, clubbing and cocktail-bar scenes, community, safety, excitement, diversity and how welcoming each destination is.
Time Out praised the cities for their diverse nightlife scenes, strong local culture, affordability and wide range of bars, clubs, live-music venues and late-night experiences.
