Scott Taetsch / Getty ImagesAug. 29, 2026 Updated 5:24 pm EDTThe Jacksonville Jaguars are adding depth at quarterback, agreeing Saturday to a trade with the Miami Dolphins that will send backup Quinn Ewers up the coast for a 2028 sixth-round pick, according to team and league sources. The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because the trade had not yet been announced.Ewers, a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft for Miami, started three games for the Dolphins as a rookie after the team benched Tua Tagovailoa. He went 1-2 in those starts and, in four games total, completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He had a passer rating of 85.5.
Ewers played in just one game this preseason, completing only 1 of 8 passes for 27 yards and an interception against the Washington Commanders. He suffered a groin injury and missed the Dolphins’ next preseason game against the New York Giants. He was cleared to return to practice this week but also sat out Friday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.He had been the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart behind starter Malik Willis. Cam Miller, a 2025 sixth-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders, whom the Dolphins signed in January, will now likely assume Miami’s backup role.In Jacksonville, Ewers could assume the No. 2 job behind starter Trevor Lawrence. Nick Mullens spent last season in the No. 2 role and remains with the team.
